Govt ready to up basic power tariff by Rs7.91 under IMF pressure

The government is ready to implement another condition of the International Monetary Fund regarding Rs7.91/unit increase in the basic power tariff, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to sources, the federal cabinet in its meeting today (Monday) will deliberate on raising the basic power tariff by Rs7.91 per unit. A summary in this regard will be presented during its meeting. 

Sources said that it was suggested to the government to increase the basic power tariff in phases. It has been proposed to raise power tariff by Rs3.50/unit in July; and another increase of Rs3.50/unit in the month of August and then 91 paisas increase in the basic tariff in the month of October has been suggested.

Sources revealed that Nepra had sent a request to the federal government to raise basic power tariff.
