Jemima Khan, former wife of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has decided not to sue tabloids for publishing her objectionable picture the other day.

On Wednesday, she tweeted the picture and the news story which says “Despite her attempt to look demure, Jemima Khan still managed to turn heads on a night out recently. The 34-year-old socialite’s may have been lady-like, but her modesty ended there, as she was pictured stepping out of the car, without wearing any tights. Jemima wearing a knee-length black pencil skirt and grey ruffled top, was apparently unaware of her faux pas as she made her way smiling to a pre-Bafta party last Friday.”

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, she said “Upskirting by paparazzi used to be routine. They’d crouch down on the pavement as you got out of a car & the papers- in this case, The Mail & Sun- would print the photos. FYI I was wearing underwear but the flash rendered them transparent, so they effectively stripped me naked too.”

In the next tweet, Jemima said “It was mortifying, not least for my young Muslim sons who were trying to adjust to a new life back in the UK. I considered suing for invasion of privacy but was advised it wouldn’t be worth the gleeful headlines.”

“Upskirting became a criminal offence punishable by up to 2 years in prison in 2019. It is defined as the act of taking a sexually intrusive photograph up someone’s skirt without their permission.”

In another tweet, she said “None of the papers reporting on this new Voyeurism Bill, known as the “Upskirting Bill” mentioned the fact that the tabloids had been paying for and profiting from upskirting for years with impunity.”

In the last tweet, Jemima said “I’m anxious about the comments I will get from followers in Pakistan about my “immodesty”- please try to understand that I didn’t choose to be photographed or degraded in this way & I am only tweeting this now to make a point about the British press and our treatment of women.”
