Coronavirus cases in Pakistan crossed the grim benchmark of 20,000 on Sunday evening, as confirmation of 1,324 new cases nationwide took the tally to 20,130.

As of 11:30pm on Sunday, May 3, the number of patients who have recovered from the viral infection increased to 5,512, as 758 more people were declared virus free, the biggest single day jump in Pakistan so far. On the other hand, 31 new deaths took the total number of fatalities to 459.

As of Sunday evening, the total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab stood at 7,494 with 2,591 recoveries and 121 deaths, Sindh 7,465 with 1,555 recoveries and 130 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,129 with 811 recoveries and 180 deaths, Balochistan 1,280 with 197 recoveries and 21 deaths, Federal Capital 393 with 55 recoveries and 4 deaths, Gilgit-Baltistan 364 with 260 recoveries and 3 deaths and Kashmir 67 with 43 recoveries and no death so far. Pakistan has seen a steady increase in coronavirus cases since February 26, when the country’s first coronavirus case was reported in Karachi. As the federal and provincial governments are struggling to contain the spread of coronavirus, most parts of the country remain under a complete or partial lockdown.
