PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday denied the reports that his party was offered to support the PTI-led government on the 18th Amendment against withdrawal of NAB cases pending against the Sharif family.

Shehbaz, who is also leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, said all political parties would have to sit together and discuss if there is any confusion in the 18th Amendment.

The constitutional amendment was introduced by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in consultation with other political parties when it was in power from 2008 to 2013.

Shehbaz said that he had ample opportunities to come into power from the backdoor, but he did not. He said that he wanted good relations with the establishment based on mutual respect.

Referring to a recent investigation into the sugar crisis in the country, Shehbaz said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was directly involved in this scam. He said that sugar was available in the market for Rs52 per kilogram when his party left the government in 2018 and its rate increased to Rs80 per kilogram in 2019.
