Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader Shireen Mazari on Wednesday wrote a letter to three rapporteurs of the United Nations (UN) for taking notice of the misuse of the blasphemy laws against her party from the Shehbaz led government.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, former human rights minister Shireen sent the letter to the UN's special rapporteur on the freedom of opinion and expression, special rapporteur on extrajudicial summary or arbitrary executions, and special rapporteur on the freedom of religion and belief.
The channel report said that she mentioned in the letter the arrests of PTI leaders and workers in connection with the Madina incident in Pakistan.
She has also sent a separate message to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the matter.
Reacting over writing a letter to the UN, former premier Imran Khan’s former special representative on religious affairs Allama Tahir Ashrafi termed the act of Shireen Mazari as regrettable.
He said a campaign against blasphemy and blasphemy laws is already underway at the global level so writing a letter to the UN on filing an FIR against PTI’s blasphemy is a wrong act.
Allama Tahir Ashrafi demanded the PTI leadership and the writer of the letter Shireen Mazari to withdraw the letter to the UN.
