Inflated sugar price crisis hit Peshawar and Lahore where it is now being sold at Rs 145 and Rs135 per kg respectively in clear violation of the government's fixed rate, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

In Peshawar, the rate of sugar has soared and it is now being sold for Rs145 per kg, more than the one litre price of petrol.

Lahore's Retailers Association President Ayub Owaisi put the blame on the supply rate of sugar as they received it at Rs132 per kg. The association of the city also urged the government to take notice of the situation as ample amount of sugar has been available in the storehouses.

Owaisi said that subsidies to mills would definitely provide sugar at lower rates to the people. The increased sugar price will also impact the rates of drinks, sweets, cakes, fruit buns, and different kinds of bread types.

The wholesale price of sugar has been increased by Rs400 in Akbari Mandi and reached Rs6,600 from Rs6,200 per 50 kg.

The sugar shortage crisis also hit South Punjab’s Uch Sharif, where the 50kg sugar sack price has been increased by Rs500 as sugar packs are not available at government fixed prices.

Ultimately, private dealers of sugar have sky-rocketed the price of sugar in the city. Per kg price of sugar in the Uch Sharif has now reached Rs140.
