Fog engulfs Punjab plain areas, disrupts flights operation again

Dense fog and biting cold continued disturbing routine life in plains of Punjab on Saturday and again disrupted the flights operation at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Eastern Bypass Lahore has now opened for traffic as it was closed Friday night due to fog for traffic from 11 pm to 9 am. The TV channel reported Arifwala and Vehari cities were also engulfed by fog amid less visibility.

Pakistan Meteorological Department said cold and dry weather is expected in most plain areas of the country. While cloudy weather conditions with light rain (snowfall over the hills) is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region and Kashmir.

Heavy fog also disrupted flight operations at the Lahore Airport early Saturday with seven flights cancelled and nine delayed as visibility on the runway was reduced to 600 metres, the TV channel said.

In the past 24 hours (Friday) weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country. However rain (mm) recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Mir Khani 03, Chitral, Dir 02, Drosh, Kalam and Besham 01.

Flights schedule

Flights cancelled as the visibility ratio has come to 600 metres only. The TV channel reported that following flights are cancelled: Airblue flight PA416 to Dubai, Flight WY341 from Muscat, WY 342 in Muscat, Flight PA417 from Dubai, Flight PK306 from Karachi, Karachi-bound Harvaz PK-307 and Flight PK304 from Karachi.

While, Turkish Airways flight TK715 to Istanbul has been delayed for four hours, British Airways flight BA-258 to London also delayed by one hour and ten minutes, British Airways flight BA-259 from London delayed for two hours and 15 minutes and Flight TK714 from Istanbul was also delayed for four hours.

Flight PA-413 from Sharjah was also delayed by one hour and 20 minutes, the TV channel reported.
