While welcoming the ECP’s scrutiny of PTI’s funding through donations from overseas Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan declared on Wednesday that Pakistan’s Tehreek-i-Insaf has a proper donor base whereas PPP and PML-N have been raising funds through extortion of money.

In a couple of tweets, the prime minister maintained “I welcome ECP's scrutiny of PTI's funding through donations from Overseas Pakistanis. The more our accounts are scrutinised the more factual clarity will emerge for the nation to see how PTI is the only political party with proper donor base premised on proper political fundraising.”

In another tweet, Imran Khan aid “I look forward to seeing similar ECP scrutiny on funding of two other major political parties - PPP and PML-N.”

He said “This will allow the nation to see the difference between a proper political fundraising and extortion of money from crony capitalists and vested interests in exchange for favours at nation's expense.”

Meanwhile, stressing that the long-term planning was required for the development of countries, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday it was unfortunate that development of some specific parts of Pakistan remained a priority for the successive governments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Dera Ismael Khan-Hakla section of the motorway.

“Eastern parts of the country such as Lahore, federal capital Islamabad and the port city of Karachi, or in other words areas lying to the east of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) received a huge chunk of development funds,” he said, and reminded that this did not mean that Pakistan was the only country in the world where this problem existed. “In fact, this is the problem with other third world countries as well,” he added.

He further said China was one of those countries where long-term planning was done, which ultimately resulted in its progress and prosperity. “We also had great planners in 60s. The projects completed in that decade bear testimony to the outstanding performance of our Planning Commission that existed then,” PM Imran recalled.

He said he was especially delighted today because the project would benefit the people of a relatively backward area. “The people of Dera Ismael Khan and the adjoining areas have to shift to big cities such as Lahore and Karachi for earning their livelihoods and for the education of their children. This is because these areas feature nowhere on governments’ priority list. These are in fact the areas which were forgotten by the rulers,” he commented.

The regretted that the last government had focused its energies on building roads only to receive ‘kickbacks’.
