The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has imposed a fine of Rs10 million on the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) for failing to control the incidents of electrocution, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

According to Nepra notification, the Qesco was fined Rs10 million for failing to control the electrocution incidents in the city. It said that as many as 15 people were electrocuted during a period between July 2019 and June 2021.

The regulatory authority constituted a 2-member committee to probe the deaths and the body found that Qesco was responsible for 4 deaths out of 15.

Nepra also issued a show cause notice to the Qesco under the Nepra Act and gave it a chance to explain its position. But the Qesco remained unsuccessful in the performance of its national obligation regarding adopting safety measures and moral code, the regulatory authority said.

Nepra also directed Qesco to pay Rs3.5 million compensation to the bereaved families who had lost their dear and near ones. It also asked the Qesco authorities to provide employment to the victim families.
