PM downplays Karachi meeting between PML-N, MQM-P

Says such meetings do not pose any threat to government

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday chaired a meeting of spokespersons for the government and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad.

According to the sources, the prime minister said at the meeting that he was personally monitoring the measures the government was taking to curb the prevailing price hike. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar briefed the prime minister at the meeting. He informed the participants in the meeting about the PSDP projects and expenditure on these projects.

The sources said that a meeting between leaders of the main opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and the ruling coalition partner, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), also came under discussion at the gathering. Commenting on the meeting, according to the sources, the prime minister said that political people do hold meetings and such meetings are the beauty of democracy. He said such meetings do not pose any threat to the government. He said that MQM-P was a coalition partner of the ruling PTI in the federal government. He said that MQM-P and other coalition partners were in touch with the government on issues relating to the Sindh province.

The ongoing national cricket tournament, Pakistan Super League (PSL), also came under discussion at the meeting. According to the sources, the prime minister showed his satisfaction at the arrangements for the tournament in different Pakistani cities. He said that stadiums used to be empty during most PSL matches in Dubai in the past. He said the number of Pakistani cricket fans visiting the stadiums was encouraging. He said the decision to hold the PSL tournament in Pakistan sent a positive message to the world.

Also, the prime minister said the government was doing a lot of work in the tourism sector in Pakistan. He said the number of tourists visiting Pakistan had doubled in recent months.

On this occasion, the prime minister also issued special instructions to spokespersons for the government as well as the PTI. Khan told them to highlight the positive measures taken by the government with facts and figures. He told the spokespersons to go to TV programmes with complete facts and figures.
