The federal government is considering setting the wheat support price at Rs1,780 per 40 kilograms.

As the Sindh government has already announced that wheat support price for the next season would be Rs2,000 per 40 kilograms, the federal government has asked the province to show flexibility on this issue. A meeting between representatives of the federal government and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in this regard is likely to take place soon.

Earlier, the federal government and three provincial governments had proposed to set the wheat support price at Rs1,600 per 40 kilograms.

As farmers are out on the roads for a better wheat support price, the Sindh government’s decision is being seen as a ray of hope for them. The federal government may even increase the wheat support price to Rs1,800 per 40 kilograms if the Sindh government shows flexibility on this issue.
