The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its judgement on the Local Bodies elections in the federal capital, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The ECP was conducting a hearing on the Local Bodies polls case in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the hearing, the special secretary of election commission remarked that after a passage of a long time the Interior Ministry had not taken any steps to hold the Local Government elections in Islamabad.

The interior secretary told the election commission that the government would hold the LB elections within six months.

On this, the Election Commission DG Law said that the government should be bound to take immediate steps for conducting the local government polls in the federal capital.

The interior secretary informed the commission that the federal government was stipulating new law to devolve more powers to the Local Bodies in Islamabad.

The ECP member from Balochistan asked the secretary how long it would take. The interior secretary replied that he was in contact with the interior secretary on law and the polls would be held within six months.

The ECP member from Sindh objected to it, saying earlier you asked for one month time.

The interior secretary replied that legislation takes time. The federal cabinet has given its approval, he added.

The DG Law said that it was written in the new Local Bodied law that after the passage of the bill, it would take another six months.

The ECP member from Balochistan said to the interior secretary that you were asking six months for legislation. Then you would require another six months, he added.

The ECP reserved its decision on the case of LB polls in Islamabad.
