Pakistan logs 61 more corona deaths, 3,747 infections in 24 hours

Pakistan recorded another 61 deaths and 3,747 infections by coronavirus pandemic during the last 24 hours (Saturday), showed the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday morning.

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 61 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 26,175 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,179,305 after adding the fresh 3,747 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Saturday), the positivity ratio stood at 6.47 percent.

During the last 24 hours (Saturday), as many as 2,940 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,060,881. As of Sunday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 92,249.

As many as 437,311 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 401,373 in Punjab, 164,732 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 100,758 in Islamabad, 32,374 in Balochistan, 32,718 in Azad Kashmir and 10,039 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 12,039 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 6,955 in Sindh, 5,087 in KP, 873 in Islamabad, 706 in Azad Kashmir, 340 in Balochistan and 175 in Gilgit Baltistan.

- More than 4.5 million dead -
The coronavirus has killed at least 4,550,974 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to an AFP compilation of official data. 

The US is the worst-affected country with 645,159 deaths, followed by Brazil with 582,670, India with 440,225, Mexico 262,221 and Peru 198,364.

The United States has seen the worst average daily death rate over the past week, with 8,565, followed by Russia with 5,570 and Mexico with 5,071.

The pandemic has nevertheless seen a slight drop in the worldwide infection rate, down 3 percent on the previous week to an average of 639,315 infections a day.
