The administration of Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad on Monday de-sealed its hostel after the 30 doctors who were sent into quarantine were discharged.

As all the doctors returned to the Polyclinic Hostel, hospital’s spokesperson Dr Imtiaz said the premises were reopened after spraying disinfectants and taking other precautionary measures.

The hostel was sealed after a doctor staying at the facility tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 27, after which the tests of the remaining doctors and staffers were also conducted the next day.

Apart from the doctors, three other staff members were also sent into quarantine. They have been discharged after testing negative for the virus.

A total of four Polyclinic Hospital staff – three doctors and a sweeper – have tested positive for the virus.

The doctors and paramedical staff around the country are critical of the governments over the lack of personnel protection equipment, as the news items of healthcare workers being infected by the virus have become a routine.

Doctors have been tested positive for the virus in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Gujrat and several other cities.

But instead of providing the required personal gear to them, the government resorted to violence in Quetta on Monday when the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan staged a protest over the failure to protect the healthcare workers.

Police used baton charge and arrested several doctors as the doctors refused to end the sit-in in the city’s red zone.

According to the YDA, at least 12 doctors have so far been tested positive for the virus in the province.
