Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari has called the session for chief minister election at a local hotel near the assembly, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Wednesday.

Dost called the session after he was denied entry by the assembly secretariat where he told the media that he will try his best to conduct CM election.

He said, “I reached here to discharge my duties.”

He continue:  “I called the session at 7:30 today. I called the meeting using my powers in accordance with the law.

"I have arrived to do my job. I am with PTI. PTI wants to leave me. Punjab has the largest population and there is no CM.

“Shehbaz Gul is the biggest liar."

The Punjab Assembly was sealed with barbed wires installed atop its boundary walls and the building's main gate locked, amid confusion over the scheduling of a crucial session for the election of the province's new chief minister.

Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz and other joint opposition members including Aleem Khan, Noman Langhrial , Zawar Warraich. Salman Naeem, Ijaz Alam, Akbar Norani, Uzma Karda and Ayesha Nawaz Ch are joining in.

A large contingent of police has been deployed outside the assembly, with personnel carrying batons and shields. Water cannons and Rescue 1122 vehicles have also been parked outside the assembly's building.

The development coincides with the submission of a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari, after he said the session for the chief minister's election would take place tonight at 7:30 pm, but a spokesperson for the provincial assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) denied the development.

Earlier in the day, the PTI submitted a no-confidence motion against its own deputy speaker of the provincial assembly.

The PTI's motion against Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari was submitted in the office of the Assembly Secretary after which the deputy speaker cannot summon the assembly session.

A big rift appeared in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the party brought a no-confidence motion against its own Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari. However, Dost Mazari asserted that he still could chair the session of the assembly despite a no-confidence motion against him.

Also, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker and PTI candidate for chief minister slot Pervaiz Elahi.

PML-N delegation comprising Khawaja Salman Rafique, Samiullah Khan, Khalik Zahir Sindhu, and Maulana Pir Ashraf Rasool visited Punjab Assembly Secretariat and filed the no-trust motion with the assembly secretary.
