Karachi bank staff rob citizens of Rs550m gold jewellery

A cause of great concern for citizens as staff of a bank in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area has robbed the people of gold ornaments worth Rs550 million deposited in the bank by replacing it with those made of bronze, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

Sharae Faisal police after registering the case on the written complaint of JS Bank’s Head Office Manager Zulfiqar Abidi have arrested five employees, including a female officer.

The heist came to light when an audit team from the bank’s head office visited the branch, and found out that gold ornaments belonging to 28 people, placed in sealed bags in a locker, had been replaced with those of bronze.

Names of those arrested are Farah Mansoor, Safdar Kalhar, Zulfiqar Jonejo, Daniyal and Adeel Latif.

Investigation officer (IO) in the case has told the media that a court has granted four-day physical remand of the suspects while other bank employees will also be questioned in order to ascertain their role in the robbery.
