The Mamund Tribe in the Bajaur Agency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken a U-turn on its alleged decision, which barred women from talking to the local FM radio channel.

A delegation consisting of officials of the district administration met the elders of the Mamund tribe on Saturday and held talks with them regarding the decision whereby a ban was allegedly imposed on women making phone calls to the local FM radio channel.

Speaking on the occasion, elders of the Mamund Tribe said the decision of the tribal council was reported out of context. They said the tribal council did not make any decision vis-a-vis phone calls by women to the local FM radio channel.

They said the issue however came under discussion and some proposals were floated at the meeting. They said the tribal council had decided that no decision would be made in violation of the constitution, Sharia and the laws of Pakistan.

The district administration said it would take stern action if any illegal or unconstitutional decision is taken. It said that proposals regarding new centres for award of scholarships to children would be sent to the relevant authorities. Also, the officials of the district administration assured the tribal council that it would take steps to curb the menace of drugs in the area.
