Barrister Shahzad Akbar, special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on accountability, has said that a British judge’s observation in the Shehbaz Sharif defamation case is being misquoted in Pakistan.

Talking to the media, Akbar said that Shehbaz Sharif and his son-in-law Ali Imran have not won the case yet. He said that PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb should have first checked what the hearing was about in the London High Court on Friday morning and then commented on it. He said that Friday’s hearing did not mean that Shehbaz and his son-in-law have won the case against the British newspaper Daily Mail.

Shahzad said the hearing was about an article published by the newspaper and the court was just trying to determine the meanings of the article written by a British journalist. He said the judge refused to impose a fine on any of the parties linked to the case. He said that Shehbaz Sharif and Ali Imran have not won any case against Daily Mail. He said the demand for Shehbaz Sharif’s release was not less than a pathetic joke.
