Fog returns as rain stops in Punjab plains

Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country as a westerly wave is still present over Kashmir and adjoining areas while fog engulfed parts of Punjab plains including Lahore as intermitted rain stopped in early hours of Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted that cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while very cold in north Balochistan, however, rain-thunderstorm (snowfall over hills) is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining areas. 

Dense fog is likely in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh, the TV channel reported. The rain in Lahore city has now stopped but the fog engulfed parts of the city in the early hours of the day.

Motorway Police and National Highways (MP&NH) said Lahore-Sheikhupura Motorway has been closed due to fog for all kinds of traffic however Lahore-Sialkot Motorway has now reopened at 09:25am for all kinds of traffic.

On the other hand, the weather in Multan city will remain cold and dry, according to the Meteorological Department Multan.

Due to dense fog at the airport, the visibility has been reduced to 300 meters wherein Khanpur line visibility also reduced to 200 meters. 

MP and NH said Khanpur section of M5 Motorway has been closed from ZahirPir due to dense fog while other sections of Motorway M4 are open.

The Multan Meteorological Department said there is no possibility of rain today while minimum temperature has been recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature is likely to reach 20 degrees Celsius and humidity in the air recorded was 90 percent.

The temperature will remain at least 12 degrees celsius in Sargodha while maximum temperature in Sargodha can go up to 19 degrees Celsius as there is no possibility of rain on Wednesday. The Met Office predicted that it will be cloudy all day in Sargodha.

Rain-thunderstorms (snowfall over hills) occurred in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Gilgit Baltistan. Cold and dry weather prevailed over other parts of the country, while very cold in north Balochistan and northern areas in the last 24 hours.

Thursday Forecast: Cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while very cold in North Balochistan. However, rain (Snowfall over hills) is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during evening/night. Dense fog is likely in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Train operation

Fog has disrupted train operation at Karachi Railways Station where various trains are delay including Pak Business Express delayed for five hours, Millat Express delayed by four hours and 15 minutes, Khyber and Green Line trains will reach the Karachi Railways Station with a delay of three hours and 15 minutes while Allama Iqbal Express and Tezgam trains are three and two hours delayed. On the other hand Karakuram, Shalimar and Karachi express trains are delayed by one hour.
