The nurses performing duties at the quarantine centre in Sukkur on Tuesday asked Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to conduct their coronavirus tests and also demanded a special allowance.

They presented these demands, saying they had been on duty for the last 25 days in most difficult circumstances.

The demands came as the healthcare workers are facing a severe shortage of personal protection equipment (PPE) and many of them have so far been tested positive for the coronavirus in different parts of the country.

On the other hand, the Young Nurses Association Sindh said deductions were being made from their salaries despite the fact that they were playing a basic role in combating the coronavirus.

They cited the shortage of PPE which is threatening the lives of healthcare workers and said the Sindh government was making deductions from their salaries instead of granting special perks in the giving situation.

The Young Nurses Association leaders demanded that the provincial government approve special health allowance and stop the deductions.

Calling for screening of nurses, they said six suspected cases had so far been reported at JPMC (Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College) Hospital Karachi but the government wasn’t ready to carry out coronavirus tests of nurses.

Condemning the brutal police action against the doctors, they also called for an inquiry into the Quetta incident.
