The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday ordered halt to a PML-N motorcycle rally in Daska ahead of the polling due on April 10, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The ECP issued the order to the DPO Sialkot to stop the PML-N motorcycle rally. It said as per the Daska Assistant Commissioner a motorcycle rally was going to be held in Daska today (Wednesday) under the auspices of the PML-N Youth Wing.

“Rallies are banned under the Electoral Code of Conduct. The DPO should take steps to stop the rally to implement the election code of conduct,” the ECP said.

On April 2, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had upheld the ECP’s decision for holding re-election in the entire NA-75 Daska constituency. Disposing of the PTI candidate's application, the apex court ordered the ECP to hold the re-polling in Daska by-election on April 10.

Justice Ata Bandial announced the short order. Talking to newsmen outside the Supreme Court building, PTI candidate from NA-75 Daska Ali Amjad Malhi said they would think about filing a review petition in this regard after getting the court decision.

On March 25, the Supreme Court had ordered a halt to the polling in NA-75 Daska by-election scheduled to be held on April 10. Issuing an interim stay order, the apex court had remarked “Defer the polling day, not the whole polling process.”

The Election Commission of Pakistan had ordered re-election in NA-75 on an application of PML-N.

Linking further hearing in NA-75 Daska by-election case to the availability of the bench, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday barred the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from going ahead with the polling in the constituency on April 10 as originally scheduled.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heading the bench, remarked that the date for the hearing will be fixed as soon as the bench was available.
