First PML-N MNA submits resign to party as PDM adds pressure on govt

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Chaudhry Hamid Hameed from NA-66-(Sargodha-III) forwarded his resignation to PML-N leadership from NA seat, a day before a meeting of the heads of the PDM parties where the future course of action of opposition movement will be decided, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Hamid Hameed said that the decision to tender resignation was decided in the meeting chaired by Shahbaz Sharif. Hamid Hameed said, “I am with Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif and will remain with his leaders.”

“The government has become a burden on the country and the nation,” Hamid Hameed added.

Hameed said resignations are necessary for bringing real democracy in the country.

The TV channel reported that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif agreed to resign from the assemblies and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is also ready for resignations.

In the last telephonic conversation between PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Asif Ali Zardari discussed resignations, the TV channel reported.

Raising the ante a week before the PDM rally in Lahore on December 13, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Sunday declared that the Opposition is going to take “big decisions” on December 8.

She announced this while addressing the PML-N Social Media Convention in Lahore’s Johar Town area.

Maryam Nawaz said that there will be “major decisions” which will be announced on December 8. “Pakistani public has won the war and the victory declaration will come on December 13,” the PML-N Vice-President added.

Maryam advised all the elected MNAs and MPAs to obey their parties “if we decide to opt for resignations otherwise people will encircle their homes.”

“I call upon all senators, MNAs and MPAs to respect the sanctity of people’s votes and should reject all kinds of pressure and obey their party's decision which will be taken on December 8,” Maryam Nawaz declared.

PDM Dec 8 Meeting

Alliance of opposition’s 11-parties Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) next meetup will take place on December 8 in Islamabad at PML-N Secretariat with JUI-F Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman in chair. Sources said PDM parties’ leaders will attend the meeting.

Sources also claimed that Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari will also participate in the important PDM meeting via video link.

The TV channel reported that coronavirus report of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari came negative and his participation also expected in the meeting.

The PDM meeting will discuss all option including resignations from the assemblies and may take decision for Long March towards Islamabad, the TV channel reported.

Hamid Hameed Profile

Previously he was a member of the National Assembly from June 2013 to May 2018. He ran for the seat of the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency NA-66 (Sargodha-III) in 2002 general election but was unsuccessful. He received 29,496 votes and lost the seat to Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi.

He ran for the seat of National Assembly as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency NA-66 (Sargodha-III) in 2008 Pakistani general election and again remained unsuccessful receiving 65,020 votes and lost the seat to Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi.

He was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency NA-66 (Sargodha-III) in 2013 Pakistani general election receiving 133,085 votes and defeated Mumtaz Kahloon.

He served as the Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan. He was re-elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency NA-90 in 2018.
