Punjab govt earns 10 more revenue from duties on selling alcohol

The Punjab government has earned 10 percent more income from the duties it has imposed on the selling of alcohol in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The provincial government has received Rs670 million from duties and issuance of licences for selling alcohol, which is ten percent more than income it generated during last year.

The Punjab government is striving to expand its sources of income as it deposits more than Rs300 billion revenue it generate from different means in the national exchequer.

One of the sources of income for the Punjab government is from duties it has imposed on liquor selling and issuance of licences.

According to a report of the Punjab Civil Accounts, a growth in income from the duties and licences issuance was witnessed in the fiscal year 2021-22.

As per the documents, Rs470 million were received from the issuance of licences for selling alcohol whereas Rs200 million were generated from duties slapped on selling foreign liquor. Rs61.4 million were generated from duties on selling locally-made alcohol.

The whole income is 10 percent more than the last year’s revenue. However, the Punjab government has set a revenue target of Rs2.59 billion.
