Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet fighters on Wednesday carried out an exercise including take-offs and landings on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2), a statement issued by the Air Force said, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The PAF’s F-16 and JF-17 Thunder jets participated in the drill at the motorway, the TV channel reported.

The air route has been shut down for all kinds of air traffic for the PAF exercise.

In the exercise at the M-2, F-16 fighter-bomber aircraft and multi-role combat aircraft JF-17 Thunder, developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China, participated.

Lahore-Islamabad Motorway closed to let PAF practise landing jets on the road.

A Motorway Police spokesman said Motorway M-2 traffic has been provided alternative routes due to PAF exercise.

The spokesperson said, “Traffic from Lahore to Islamabad has been diverted from Kot Abdul Malik Interchange to Sheikhupura Highway. Vehicles can re-enter the M-2 Motorway from Hiran Minar to go to Islamabad.”

National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said traffic from Islamabad to Lahore has been diverted from Sheikhupura interchange to Lahore and vehicles can reach Lahore from Kot Abdul Malik Interchange via Motorway M-2.
