Last few weeks were like a roller-coaster ride for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri who was restored through an order of the Islamabad High court, now faced another blow from the federal government as he has been stripped of all the powers as HEC chairman, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Now all powers have been given to the interim executive director of the HEC. It also declared the interview process for the new Executive Director as null and void.

The Education Minister stripped of the HEC chairman powers through a resolution presented by the HEC members.

As per reports, the development occurred a day after the federal government (The Ministry of Education and Professional Training) had challenged before the Supreme Court the Jan 18, 2022, restoration of Dr Tariq Javed Banuri on the post of chairman HEC. Moved through Additional Attorney General (AAG) Chaudhry Aamir Rehman, the petition has sought to set aside the Jan 18 Islamabad High Court (IHC) short order restoring Dr Banuri on the post.
