Pakistan Meteorological Department has sounded an alarm about a looming drought in south-western districts of Balochistan as rainfall is not expected in the south-western region including Sindh till November this year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The weather office said areas that might be affected by the severe drought in Balochistan include Chaghi, Gwadar, Jaran, Ketch, Panjgur and Washok while moderate drought in Balochistan might hit Harnai, Mastung, Noshki, Pishin, Kalat and Quetta.

The Met Office said that most parts of Sindh are also likely to be severely affected by the drought including Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Thatta and Sajawal.

The weather office said areas that might face moderate drought include Dadu, Khairpur, Karachi, Larkana, Nowshero Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sukkur.

As per the weather office, the possible drought would likely affect agriculture and livestock.

The Meteorological Department instructed stakeholders to take appropriate measures in affected areas before the drought and directed farmers and those associated with the agricultural sector to be aware of weather conditions.

It is pertinent to note that the southwestern region of Balochistan has been suffering from severe drought due to low rainfall since October last year.
