Former caretaker chief minister of Punjab and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi will contest the election for the Senate seat as the ruling coalition’s joint candidate, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to reliable sources, Mohsin Naqvi is likely to become the next federal interior minister after winning the senate seat from Punjab as an independent candidate backed by both PPP and PML-N.

The sources added that it is a joint decision of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership to field Mohsin Naqvi for senate election.

After becoming a senator, Mohsin Naqvi will be given an important responsibility in the federal government, they added.

Naqvi, who is also serving as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, will take oath as a member of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s federal cabinet.

He was elected unopposed as the chairman of the PCB on February 6.
