The inquiry commission investigating the sugar crisis on Friday summoned former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PML-N leader Khurram Dastgir who had informed the panel that they could help in the probe, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday, quoting its sources.

In a letter written by Gohar Nafees, who is a member of the commission, Abbasi and Khurram have been directed to appear before the panel at the FIA headquarters at 11am on Saturday along with the relevant documents.

Last month, Abbasi had asked FIA Director General Wajid Zia to allow them to provide information in connection with unexplained hike in the sugar price. Wajid is the head of the inquiry commission.

“We’re informed by the inquiry commission about the time and venue, enabling us to appear before it to present useful information regarding the price hike in sugar due to bad governance and corruption.”

Abbasi said that he wanted to appear along with his colleague and former federal minister Khurram, adding that “Under Section 9 of Pakistan’s Commission of Inquiry Act 2017, every citizen can provide information in a matter under-investigation.”

He further said that “under the law, the inquiry commission is liable to bring under consideration any information or evidence put before by any citizen.”

However, Abbasi did not get any reply after which he wrote another letter, insisting on permitting him to appear in person and sharing the information that he has.

At last, the inquiry commission took notice of his letters and informed him to appear on Saturday.
