The Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam has raised the matter of Balochistan governor’s resignation in Senate, reported 24 News HD TV Channel on Saturday.

JUI Senator Kamran Murtaza has submitted a resolution in the upper house challenging Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to ask Balochistan Governor Justice ® Amanullah Khan Yasinzai to submit his resignation.

The prime minister had asked the Balochistan governor to stand down by tendering his resignation by writing him a letter.

According to the resolution, the premier does not have the authority to ask the governor to resign by writing an epistle to the latter. To write a letter to the governor by PM is a violation of the Constitution and rule of law, the resolution added.

A few days ago, Prime Minister Khan had asked Balochistan Governor Justice (r) Yasinzai to step down by writing a letter to the governor, saying that he intended to appoint a new governor in view of transforming political challenges. He said he was unable to see the governor in person due to the prevalent Covid-19 situation in the country.

But the political crisis deepened in Balochistan when Governor Yasinzai refused to resign on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s instructions on Thursday. According to sources, the governor had insisted that he would resign only when President Dr Arif Alvi would ask him to do so as he was appointed by President Alvi on the recommendation of the prime minister in October 2018.
