PML-N leader Khawaja Asif did not appear before the NAB investigators in a case concerning the money earned through a UAE Iqama on Thursday, as his lawyer said the anti-graft body could not summon his client after a 2018 Supreme Court ruling, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to media outside NAB office in Lahore, Najam-ul-Hassan – the PML-N leader’s counsel, said the Supreme Court had issued a detailed verdict in the disqualification filed by his rival Usman Dar of PTI.

He said the apex court had also shared the details of the foreign company’s managing director, Illyas Solam, in the same judgment.

The Supreme Court verdict was presented to the NAB officials which satisfied them, Najam added.

Earlier, Khawaja Asif had decided against appearing before the NAB after which his counsel reached the office to present the relevant record.

The NAB had directed the PML-N leader to appear in person along with the managing director and present the relevant record for the period 2004-17.

On June 1, 2018, a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial had overturned the Islamabad High Court’s decision to disqualify Khawaja Asif for life.

During the hearing, his counsel had convinced the bench that there was no misdeclaration on behalf of his client regarding his annual statement about assets, wherein it was alleged that he did not show Rs34 million salary.

This judgment came as the PML-N leader challenged the April 27, 2018 verdict of the Islamabad High Court which had disqualified him as a member of the Parliament under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution for not disclosing his employment in a UAE company as an occupation as well as the monthly salary he was receiving.
