Policy for welfare of expats ready

The draft of National Immigration and Welfare Policy for the wellbeing of Pakistanis working abroad and their families has been prepared.

The 10-page draft, to be presented to the federal cabinet for approval in a few weeks, consists of reasons, recommendations and challenges.

It suggests amendments to laws for welfare and empowerment of Pakistani diaspora.

The policy lays stress on stepped up efforts for getting workers done the promised job, resolving visa issues and ensuring promised pay.

It also underlined the need for making the embassies effective in host states and renewing signed accords as well as exploring new avenues. 

The draft suggests training workers, cut in travel charges of the workforce, awards for employment promotors, data collection and use of the latest technology. 

It points to the challenge of making effective the role of the community welfare attachés, needs to cope with. The draft recommends the International Labor Organisation’s help for the purpose. 

It also addresses the issue of families of the oversees Pakistanis while children’s admission to the school .
