An alleged scam involving Nadra officers in selling Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Afghan Qaeda members and police has been exposed in a meeting of the Senate Sub-Committee on Interior, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

Displeased at shear negligence on the part of Nadra high-ups, Senator Talha told the sensate body that Nadra officers took Rs45 million bribe in a villa of F-10 sector in Islamabad.

He told the Nadra chairman who was also present in the meeting that his senior officer took Rs45 million bribe and unblocked 45 ID cards of Afghan people.

Talha said the authority also issued Pakistani identity cards to Qaida members and they were using even blocked cards outside Pakistan.

In reply, the NADRA chairman said these cards were fake and were not issued by the authority.

He told the committee that 87 officers were involved in issuing bogus identity cards while some of such cases were referred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the other were being investigated internally.

He said they were going to re-examine all the identity cards by using high-tech and with the help of artificial intelligence.
