A review meeting was held today on relief activities for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that fundraising should be carried out in schools, colleges and universities to help the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Shehbaz Sharif appealed to the industrialists and entrepreneurs of Pakistan to actively participate in the Prime Minister’s Fund for the earthquake victims.

“In this hour of trouble, Pakistan stands by its old friend Turkey,” he said.

A high-level committee was also formed to organise relief operations for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Under the leadership of Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Marriyum Aurangzeb will be members of the committee.

Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Religious Affairs Minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor, NDMA chairman, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Syria and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi will also be members of the committee.

“The daily meeting of the committee will ensure the delivery of relief goods to Turkey and Syria on a priority basis,” the prime minister said.

“Relief goods should be sent from Pakistan to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria by land, air and sea routes,” he added.

“On an emergency basis, the NDMA has set up collection centers in every district of Pakistan to collect aid for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria,” he stated.

“The NDMA has increased communication with all the provincial governments to speed up relief activities. It should be ensured that the goods sent to the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria are of standard quality,” he directed.

“Blankets, warm clothes, tents and food for children should be arranged immediately,” he ordered and said that Turkey had helped Pakistanis in every way during the floods of 2010 and 2022.

“Despite the limited resources, Pakistan will spare no effort to help its Turkish brothers and sisters. Pakistan has established an air corridor to send aid supplies,” he said.

“Very soon, a convoy of trucks will also leave for Turkey and Syria with relief goods from Pakistan. The team and equipment for a 30-bed mobile hospital from Pakistan has reached Turkey and is working there. The second mobile hospital is also being dispatched with staff and equipment,” the prime minister told the meeting.

“The efforts of Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, her team and the Pakistani media to convey the voice of the earthquake victims in Turkey to Pakistanis are commendable,” he commended.

“The involvement of Pakistan Air Force (PAF), PIA and NDMA in this operation is also commendable. The rescue teams of Pakistan and the teams of the Pakistan Army are also participating in the relief operations in Turkey in a better way,” he commended further.

“The entire Pakistani nation is requested to help their Muslim brothers and sisters in Turkey and Syria as much as possible,” he appealed.
