Gilgit Baltistan Assembly demands interim province status

The Gilgit Baltistan Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday demanding to make the Gilgit Baltistan region an interim province by amending the Constitution of Pakistan immediately, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The resolution called on the Centre, Prime Minister Imran Khan and other state institutions for a constitutional amendment so that Gilgit Baltistan can be given the status of an interim province with adequate representation in the National Assembly, Senate and other federal institutions.
The resolution was tabled jointly by the government and the opposition and it also carried the signatures of Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid, Opposition Leader PPP’s Amjad Hussain, JUI’s Rahmat Khaliq, PML-N’s Ghulam Muhammad and MWM’s Muhammad Kazim.
The resolution reads, “While amending the constitution, it should also be taken in view to ensure a continuity in Pakistan’s stance over the Kashmir dispute.”
The resolution of the legislature also vows that the people of the Gilgit Baltistan region would continue their moral as well as political support for the freedom struggle of the people of Kashmir.

Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed chaired the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly’s Tuesday session. GB Labour Minister Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Abdullah Baig also signed the resolution.
