A high-level delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf on Thursday called on the chief election commissioner and apprised him of party’s reservations over the interim setup in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The PTI delegation was included its Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Secretary General Asad Umar and Malika Bukhari.

Sources said that the PTI leadership discussed the behavior of Punjab interim administration with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in its meeting.

They complained that their party was not allowed to start election campaign despite the release of poll schedule by the ECP.

They called upon the CEC to restrain the caretaker government in Punjab from taking unconstitutional and illegal steps.

The PTI leaders informed the chief election commissioner that the PTI workers were subjected to torture by Punjab police during yesterday’s rally in Lahore.

Sources said that the delegation demanded a level-playing field from the ECP in elections.

Sources revealed that the PTI leaders also expressed their reservations over delay in the announcement of date for election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They requested the ECP to announce date for KP elections in the light of Supreme Court’s order.

PTI may file contempt plea in SC against KP governor

Later, talking to media, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the PTI delegation met with the chief election commissioner with the permission of party chairman. A gigantic responsibility lies on the ECP to hold transparent elections, he added.

“We talked about fair and transparent elections during the meeting. The meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere. We placed our reservations before the commission. We also apprised the CEC of yesterday’s incident in Lahore,” Qureshi said.

The PTI leader deplored that despite Supreme Court’s order, KP Governor Ghulam Ali was not giving any date for election in the province.

“If the KP governor further delays the announcement of election date, the PTI will file a contempt petition against him in the apex court,” Qureshi informed.

The PTI vice chairman said that the CEC listened to them patiently and he was satisfied with this meeting.

He said that the delegation would apprise Chairman Imran Khan of the details of the conference.
