75% vehicles of NA secretariat grounded to reduce petrol consumption

As many as 15 per cent more vehicles of the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat have been grounded as part of NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s austerity drive aimed at saving Rs2 billion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Sources in the NA told the 24News TV channel that the ratio of the NA secretariat’s vehicles grounded had now reached 75 per cent.

The speaker himself has started using Corolla car and has advised MNAs to travel in small cars.

Similar measures have been taken in the Senate Secretariat on the instructions of Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani as the secretariat has returned over Rs260 million to the Ministry of Finance.

Sources disclosed that all tenders for the purchase of new vehicles at both secretariats had been cancelled.
