Australian high commissioner meets PTI chairman Barrister Gohar

Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Neil Hawkins met with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

During the meeting, Barrister Khan briefed High Commissioner Hawkins about the evolving political landscape in Pakistan and PTI’s ongoing efforts to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.

He expressed concern over the state of the judiciary following the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which, he noted, has undermined judicial independence by placing it under executive influence.

The discussion also touched upon the mass convictions of PTI leaders, which Khan asserted are being carried out without adherence to due legal process.

High Commissioner Hawkins reiterated Australia’s commitment to supporting a stable, democratic, and prosperous Pakistan.

He affirmed that Australia continues to advocate for the protection of democratic principles and human rights, in line with Pakistan’s Constitution and international obligations.

He also emphasized that Australia maintains regular diplomatic engagement with all major political parties in Pakistan.
