Lahore ranked as world’s second most polluted city despite thinning of smog

The air quality in Lahore has improved following a drop in temperatures as the AQI in the city was recorded at 250 on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

However, still, the provincial capital was on the second position on the list of the world’s most polluted cities.

The AQI over the US consulate was recorded at 463. 

Similarly, it was 396 at Pakistan Engineering Service, 391 at Phase-8 of the DHA, 304 at the CERP office, and 277 at the University of Management and Technology (UMT).  

The weather department predicted that the maximum temperature in the city would reach 23 degrees Celsius later in the day, while it would remain at 12 degrees Celsius on the minimum side. 

Breeze was blowing at the speed of two kilometers per hour. 

The department, on the other hand, predicted dry weather for the city during the next 24 hours.  

Parts of upper Sindh receive rain

Meanwhile, different areas in upper Sindh, including Kandhkot and Jacobabad, received the first rain of the winter season, bringing smiles on people’s faces. 

However, light to moderate rain not only turned the weather cold but also left several localities without power. 

Showers were reported from different areas of Balochistan namely Ziarat, Pishin, Zhob, Shirani, Musakhel, Barkhan and Khuzdar, while it rained and snowed over the hills in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir. 

Strong gales accompanying the rain made the weather chillier. 

In Naran, the snowfall led to the closure of roads.  

Rain, snow forecast for upper parts of country

The Met Office said that rain, with snow over the hills, was expected in north Balochistan, upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Potohar region in Punjab during the next 24 hours. 

It also predicted smog and fog at a few places in Punjab and upper Sindh.
