IMF recommendations are part govt’s reform agenda: FM Aurangzeb tells Senate
Senate session begins under the chairmanship of Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb told Senate that 15 recommendations have come from the IMF team and these suggestions were already the part of government’s institutional reform agenda.
He was replying to a motion moved in Senate by Senator Kamran Murtaza for discussion on IMF report titled Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment in Pakistan. Finance Minister said IMF has released such reports for twenty others countries as well. FM Aurangzeb said the government was moving towards institutional reforms.
Senator Kamran Murtaza said that IMF report mostly talked about the courts. He said the graph of courts is falling rapidly.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb replied that this was a technical report which consists of 7 elements. Finance Minister said that the report contains recommendations related to institutional reforms. Finance Minister Aurangzeb said that there was nothing in this report that we are not working on.
Senate passed three bills
Earliert, Senate passed three bills of public importance which include; “The Rights of Persons Arrested, Detained or under Custodial Investigation Bill, 2020”, “The Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill, 2023” and “The Fatal Accidents (Amendment) Bill, 2024.”
Eight bills were also introduced in the House.
The eight bills which were introduced in the Senate include; “The Pakistan Psychological Council Bill, 2025”, “The Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill, 2025”, “The Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (Regulation) Bill, 2025”, “The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2025”, “The Islamabad Capital Territory (Prohibition of Plastic Book Covers) Bill, 2025”, “The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2025”, “The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (Amendment) Bill, 2025” and “The Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025.”
The Chair referred the bills to the Standing Committees concerned.
The House passed a resolution, recommending the government to provide adequate relief packages and compensation to families affected by floods, 2025 in the country. The resolution was moved by Muhammad Talha Mahmood.
Senate unanimously passes bill regarding the rights to detained and arrested persons. The Bill was moved by PPP Senator Farooq H Naek. Describing the salient features of the bill, Naek said the bill was related to the rights of arrested, detained and detained persons.
He said according to the bill, the arrested person should be informed of the reasons for the arrest in writing. He should have the help of lawyers and detained person should be allowed to meet his family and get medicine. Naek said that currently, arrested persons have to approach the court for medicine and home-cooked food. According to the bill, police officers who violate the law will be fined.
Meanwhile, PML-N Senator Anusha Rehman presented Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Amendment Bill 2025. PPP Senator Shahadat Awan presented Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Second Amendment Bill 2025 in the House.
Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Amendment Bill 2025 also presented in Senate. The bill was presented by Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir in the Senate session. Late Senate allocated all bills special seats for deserving people in universities was presented in the House by Senator Kamran Murtaza. The Chairman Senate has referred all bills to the relevant committees with government opinions.
