Karachi restaurant fined Rs200,000 for using expired oil

Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has seized a huge quantity of unhygienic, expired oil during a raid on a restaurant in Karachi and also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on its owners, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The restaurant was located in the New Lyari area of Surjani Town in Karachi. The Sindh Food Authority team raided the restaurant under the supervision of Assistant Director Zafar Hashmi.

The Sindh Food Authority team also impounded a large quantity of lemons from the deep freezer of the restaurant.

During the raid, the staff of the restaurant attacked the SFA team, after which the SFA team informed the Surgani Town Police Station.

Later, the owners and staff escaped from the scene after locking the restaurant. The Sindh Food Authority team arrested a staff member of the restaurant.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the oil had expired in 2017. Assistant Director Zafar Hashmi said that the restaurant is located opposite Surjani Town Police Station.

He alleged that the restaurant is being run under the patronage of local police. He said that SHO Irfan failed to take any action against criminals.
