There was a sharp drop in coronavirus infections and positivity ratio in Pakistan whereas the number of deaths went up during the last 24 hours (Monday), showed the statistics released by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday morning.

The number of Covid-19 cases after hovering between 7,000 to 8,000 for the last many days went down considerably as Pakistan reported 5,327 infections and 32 deaths during the last 24 hours (Tuesday)

As per the latest NCOC data, after the addition of 32 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 29,301 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,430,366 after adding the fresh 5,327 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Monday), 55,202 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio dropped to 9.65 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 1,500.

During the last 24 hours (Monday), as many as 3,665 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,295,390. As of Tuesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 105,675.

As many as 543,170 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 480,421 in Punjab, 194,887 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 128,429 in Islamabad, 34,417 in Balochistan, 38,339 in Azad Kashmir and 10,703 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 13,176 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 7,829 in Sindh, 6,002 in KP, 980 in Islamabad, 758 in Azad Kashmir, 368 in Balochistan and 188 in Gilgit Baltistan.

The US has recorded the most Covid deaths with 884,260, followed by Brazil with 626,854 and India on 495,050.

Taking into account excess mortality linked to Covid-19, the WHO estimates the overall death toll could be two to three times higher.
