IG Punjab orders to make district police units for sexual offenses investigation

For the protection of women and children, Inspector General (IG) Police Punjab Saturday issued orders to set up Special Police Units at the district level for Sexual Offenses Investigation all over the province.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the special units will hold investigations of adultery, fornication, rape, gang rape and other related cases with women and children.
Special units consisting of women officers and personnel have been set up all over Punjab including Lahore and the report has been directed to be sent to the IG office within 3 days.
Special units headed by SP Investigation will lead the unit while two schedules have been issued for the investigation of cases.
In Schedule One, cases of misdempt, attempt to misdempt, abduction, harassment, and pornography are included. The special unit will investigate the schedule one cases and directly report to the SP Investigation.
While in schedule two, cases related to the rape and gang rape with women, acid attacks and forced prostitution are included. The special unit will investigate the schedule-2 cases under the direct supervision of the concerned SDPO.
The purpose of the special units is to complete the investigation of cases related to women and children in a timely manner and bring the accused to justice.
Last year, more than 520 cases of rape, gang rape and other cases were reported in Lahore and more than 4500 cases across Punjab.
