David Beckham’s New Year post sparks hope of truce with son Brooklyn
Sir David Beckham used the final hours of the year to make what appears to be his most heartfelt and public attempt yet to heal the widening rift with his estranged eldest son, Brooklyn, delivering an emotional message to his millions of Instagram followers that many interpreted as a deeply personal olive branch.
In a New Year’s Eve post that resonated far beyond a routine family update, the former Manchester United and England football icon openly declared that his wife and children are his entire world, a sentiment seemingly directed not only at those close by, but also at the son who has been conspicuously absent from Beckham family life for much of the year.
As part of a carefully curated collection of family photographs, Sir David included an image of Brooklyn from his teenage years, a notable move given the ongoing estrangement. Brooklyn has not attended a single major Beckham family milestone throughout the year, skipping events such as his father’s landmark 50th birthday celebration and the long-anticipated knighthood ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The absence extended beyond his father’s achievements.
Brooklyn also failed to appear at the launch of his mother Victoria Beckham’s successful Netflix series and was missing from her fashion shows across Paris, New York, and London.
Instead, the aspiring chef and social media influencer spent much of the year in the United States alongside his American actress wife, Nicola Peltz.
Perhaps the most painful moment for the Beckham family came in August, when they were excluded from Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding vow renewal ceremony, held at the sprawling upstate New York estate of her billionaire father. The omission was widely viewed as a significant emotional blow.
The distance continued into December. Brooklyn and Nicola declined to attend the wedding of close family friend Holly Ramsay, who married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty at Bath Cathedral on December 27.
Yet despite the repeated snubs, Sir David appeared determined to signal reconciliation, sharing multiple family images on Instagram, including the throwback photo of Brooklyn.
Alongside that image, he wrote, "I love you all so much."
Other photos featured Sir David with his younger children, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, capturing moments of togetherness. The final image showed Victoria Beckham surrounded by all four of her children, accompanied by the deeply emotional caption, "You are my life."
Victoria Beckham swiftly reshared the post, adding a heart emoji to the image of David and Brooklyn, a gesture many fans interpreted as a quiet but powerful show of unity.
Earlier the same day, Sir David had reflected on the year gone by, describing himself as grateful for a series of unforgettable moments. He spoke candidly about how meaningful the year had been, saying it was one he would "remember forever."
In a separate Instagram carousel featuring 20 standout moments from 2025, none included Brooklyn. The images instead showed Sir David enjoying holidays, celebrations, and family time with Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
Accompanying the post, he wrote, "I feel very lucky to have had the year I've had in 2025 full of moments that I will never forget from my 50th to my knighthood (still pinching myself) and then finishing with winning the MLS as an owner."
While he thanked his family, Sir David notably avoided naming his children individually, a departure from his usual practice.
Invoking his former Manchester United manager, he added, "I'm so grateful to my incredible wife, my amazing children, my friends and team I work with every single day nothing would have been possible without you all...
"But as Sir Alex Ferguson would say "onto the the next". Thank you for the incredible memories I will forever remember 2025. @victoriabeckham I love you & our kids."
The celebratory post also included appearances from the family’s dogs, cocker spaniels Fig, Sage, and Olive, along with a Cockapoo named Simba, underscoring the theme of home and togetherness.
Victoria once again showed her support by resharing the post and writing, "We are all so proud of you (and love you so much!)."
The emotional displays come against the backdrop of continued separation. Brooklyn and Nicola chose to skip the Beckham family’s traditional Christmas gathering in the Cotswolds, opting instead to remain in the United States.
Nicola later shared that she "loved being home" after finishing filming on the thriller Pretty Ugly.
Despite growing criticism from fans urging Brooklyn to mend ties with his family, the couple have continued to present a united front.
Adding fuel to the controversy, Brooklyn’s younger brother Cruz recently revealed that Brooklyn had blocked the entire family on social media, contradicting reports that the Beckhams had unfollowed him.
"My mum and dad would never unfollow their son... Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked... as did I," Cruz wrote.
While Sir David, Victoria, and their younger children gathered in Bath to celebrate Holly Ramsay’s wedding, Brooklyn marked the same day by sharing a Grinch-themed post from his Los Angeles home, thousands of miles away.
Over the past year, Brooklyn and Nicola have missed numerous Beckham family birthdays, holidays, and celebrations, deepening speculation that the rift remains unresolved, even as Sir David’s New Year message suggests he may not be ready to give up hope just yet.
