Weather turns bitterly cold after rain, snow pummel different parts of country

Temperatures have plunged following rainfall and snow in different parts of the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Rain has been reported from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Peshawar, Multan, Bahawalpur and several other cities.

On the other hand, tourists have flocked to the hill stations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) following heavy snowfall in these areas.

Road links have been severed following heavy snowfall in Diamer.

There are also reports of rain and snow from different parts of Balochistan.

Ziarat has received the first snowfall of the winter season.

Temperature dropped to six degrees Celsius after heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, buffeted Islamabad and its outskirts.

Rain has been reported from various sectors of the federal capital, Bhara Kahu, Banigala, Chak Shahzad and others.

The Met Office has said that the maximum temperature in the city will be recorded at 15 degrees Celsius.

It has predicted that breeze will blow at a speed of nine kilometers per hour, while the level of humidity recorded on Thursday morning was 80 per cent.

Torrential rain in Khyber and its suburbs has resulted in a deluge in local streams and nullahs besides a sharp dip in temperatures.

Meanwhile, mountains in Tirah Valley have received seven inches of snow so far.

Two inches of snow has been reported from the plains of the valley.

In Galyat, 10 inches of snow has been recorded, while one foot at Changla Gali.

Temperature in Nathiagali has been recorded at 5 degrees Celsius, while six degrees Celsius at Ayubia.

The staff of Galyat Development Authority is in the field as snow is being removed from the roads with the help of a heavy machinery.

The Authority DG Shah Rukh Ali has urged tourists to take precautionary measures before heading to hill stations.

Rain in Karachi, other cities of Sindh

On the other hand, the weather has turned colder in Karachi and other cities of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Thatta, Sajawal and Mirpurkhas, after the first rainfall of the winter season.

The minimum temperature recorded in the port city on Thursday morning was 16 degrees Celsius, while the weather department forecast that it would touch the 27 degrees Celsius mark in the afternoon.

Breeze was blowing at a speed of seven kilometers per hour from the north-east, while the level of humidity was recorded at 79 per cent.

The department has said that nighttime temperature will come down to single digits in the next few days.

More rain, snow forecast

The Met Office has predicted more rain and snow for different parts of the country during the next 24 hours, especially in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Potohar belt of Punjab, including Islamabad and north-east Punjab.
