Keith Urban reacts to ‘uncomfortable’ question about wife Nicole Kidman
Keith Urban abruptly ended a live radio interview today after being asked an uncomfortable question about his wife, Nicole Kidman.
The 57-year-old Grammy-winning singer has been married to the Babygirl actress for nearly two decades. The couple, who tied the knot in 2006, share two daughters and are known for keeping their private life largely out of the spotlight.
During a guest appearance on Hayley & Max in the Morning on Australia’s Mix 102.3, Urban was participating in a game segment called the “Wall of Truth” when things took an unexpected turn.
Host Hayley Pearson prefaced the segment by saying, “Keith, we often find ourselves in the tricky position of asking deeply personal questions. I always feel a bit uncomfortable asking our wonderful guests something that might put them on the spot.”
Clearly in a light-hearted mood, Urban quipped, “What about the ugly ones?” to which co-host Max Burford replied, “Not you, Keith. No ugly guests today,” prompting laughter from the singer.
The segment quickly shifted tone when Max brought up Nicole Kidman’s recent on-screen roles.
“I was watching A Family Affair with her and Zac Efron,” Max began, referencing the steamy Netflix film. “I thought, ‘What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife in romantic scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron?’”
The question was met with complete silence before it became apparent that Urban had disconnected from the interview.
“He’s just dropped off Zoom,” a producer was heard saying. “I think his team ended the call to avoid that question.”
“That’s exactly what happened,” Hayley added. “I knew that would happen… We’ve upset him. He’s gone. He really doesn’t like talking about his wife.”
Urban and Kidman began dating in 2005 and married the following year. They are parents to daughters Sunday Rose and Faith. Kidman also has two older children, Bella and Connor, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
While the couple generally keeps their relationship private, Nicole recently marked their 19th wedding anniversary with a loving Instagram post captioned, “Happy Anniversary Baby @KeithUrban,” alongside a photo of them together.
Kidman has been highly visible in recent years, starring in projects such as The Perfect Couple, Spellbound, and A Family Affair, where she plays a woman who falls for her daughter’s charismatic boss, portrayed by Zac Efron.
Earlier this year, she took on a lead role in the erotic thriller Babygirl, alongside Harris Dickinson. Speaking about the emotionally and physically demanding role, Kidman admitted to experiencing burnout.
“There were moments during filming when I just thought, ‘I can’t do another orgasm scene,’” she said. “‘Don’t come near me. I’m done. I don’t care if I’m never touched again in my life.’ It became so overwhelming that it led to burnout.”
Metro has reached out to Keith Urban’s representatives for comment on the incident.
