Sindh govt files review plea in SC against its verdict in Baldia Factory fire case

The Sindh government on Wednesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against its decision in which it had acquitted all convicts in the Baldia Factory fire case, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

In its petition filed in the Karachi Registry of the SC through Prosecutor General Shabbir Shah, the provincial government said that there were flaws in the apex court’s verdict since it overlooked eyewitness accounts, medical and other proof. “The court glossed over the accounts of injured witnesses as well as opinions of experts,” read the petition.

The petitioner asked whether Article 188 of the constitution could be invoked against the verdict, which was against facts and was illegal.

The provincial government further asked whether legal heirs of those who perished in the incident could object to the acquittal of convicts under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The petitioner also raised objections to the application of article 4 and article 17 of the Law of Evidence, 1984.

Three weeks ago, the apex court accepted the appeals filed by MQM-P workers Rehman Bhola and Zubair Charya in the Baldia Factory fire case, exonerated them and ordered their acquittal, giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The SC had declared the verdicts given by the Sindh High Court (SHC) and an anti-terrorism court in the case null and void.
