Inflation climaxed at 12.24 percent in February

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) or inflation has peaked to 12.24% in the last month of February, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

According to the figures released by the statistics department on Tuesday, the inflation rose by 1.15% in a month. However, the Consumer Price Index for Rural Consumers (CPI-R) rose higher than the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers (CPI-U).

From July to February, the CPI remained at 10.5%. In the corresponding months during last year, the CPI was recorded at 8.7%.

According to the official figures, in the month of February 2022, the inflation was increased by 0.93% in the urban areas while in rural areas it was jumped to 1.48%. 

In just one year, the price of tomatoes registered an increase by 310%, mustard oil 49.8%, cooking oil 41% and ghee 38.8%. 

In a period of one year, price of Dal Masoor has been increased by 38.4%, vegetables by 33.3% and fruit prices hiked by 26%.

On the monthly adjusted basis, tomatoes have become costlier by 191.72%, chicken by 11.6%, vegetables by 10.69%, fruit by 7.32%, mustard oil by 6%, Dal Chana by 2.8%, ghee by 2.68%, cooking oil by 2.27%, motor fuel by 4.2%, hosiery by 2% and electricity by 7.76%. 

On annual adjusted basis, chick peas have become expensive by 24.3%, mutton 23.6%, Dal Chana 13%, liquid fuel 54.6% and motor fuel 39.7%.
