New York Mayor Mamdani condemns US-Israel strikes on Iran

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has condemned the recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran as illegal, warning that the escalation risks opening what he described as a new theatre of war, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

In a statement posted on X, Mamdani announced that security measures across New York City had been strengthened in light of rising international tensions. He said he remained in constant contact with the New York Police Commissioner and emergency management officials to monitor the situation closely.

The mayor said patrols had been increased at sensitive locations throughout the city as a precautionary step. While he did not cite any specific threat, he stressed that public safety remained his administration’s top priority.

Mamdani also assured residents of Iranian origin that they would be fully protected. “Iranian New Yorkers will be safeguarded under all circumstances,” he said, emphasizing that no community in the city should feel vulnerable amid geopolitical developments abroad.

Condemning the attacks, the mayor described the killing of unarmed civilians as tantamount to opening another front in war. He argued that further military escalation would not serve the interests of ordinary people.

“The public does not want another war for regime change,” Mamdani said, adding that Americans were seeking peace rather than expanded conflict. His remarks placed him among a number of local leaders who have called for de-escalation as tensions in the Middle East intensify.

City officials have not reported any specific incidents linked to the international crisis, but authorities said they would continue to assess risks and adjust security protocols accordingly.
