Five people were shot dead and three injured when their rivals ambushed them in Ahmedpur East on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Four attackers riding motorcycles targeted murder convict Arshad who was coming from Bahawalpur after being released from prison. Five people died on the spot as a result of the firing on National Highway.

The injured were referred to the THQ hospital.

One and a half year ago, a man named Azam was murdered in Basti Rashidabad in Ahmedpur East and accused Arshad was sent to jail only for 18 months.

Today after he was released from prison his rivals shot him dead and four other persons. The dead were identified as Arshad, Waris, Muhammad Nawaz, Shahid and Saeed Ahmad.

The heirs of the victims tried to block the National Highway to protest the murders but the police foiled their attempt.

The police also thwarted protesters’ bid to damage the vehicles passing through the National Highway.

The police, however, assured the protesters of swift justice and started a hunt to arrest the attackers.
