Pakistan says continued attacks in border districts by Afghan Taliban unacceptable

The continued targeting of civilians in border districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the Afghan Taliban regime has been described as unacceptable and reflective of disregard for human life, following a series of deadly incidents in Bajaur.

According to a press statement issued by the deputy commissioner of Bajaur on Thursday, nine civilians, including six women and children, were martyred, while 12 others—among them seven women and one minor—were injured due to what was termed unprovoked and criminal attacks on the civilian population. The statement issued by Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar attributed the incidents to the Afghan Taliban and their Indian-backed proxy, Fitna al Khawarij.

In a fresh incident today, the information ministry said, three civilians were injured while playing cricket after a quadcopter attack allegedly carried out by Fitna al Khawarij, highlighting ongoing threats to unarmed civilians in the region.

Officials stated that such actions follow the militants’ inability to confront Pakistan’s security forces directly, describing the attacks on civilian areas as cowardly and indicative of low moral standing.

Authorities also rejected allegations by Afghan Taliban representatives accusing Pakistan of targeting civilians. Officials maintained that Pakistan’s operations are directed solely at terrorist hideouts and supporting infrastructure, with information shared transparently and efforts made to avoid civilian casualties.

Pakistan’s stance against militant groups, including Kharji elements and their alleged backers, remains rooted in principles, resolve, and adherence to truth, officials added.
